Our vision for the future of driving is of active safety systems and cars that don’t crash.  Success requires a leap of machine intelligence, impeccable implementation, software reliability, and a rigorous experimental program. 

Tartan Racing competed in the Urban Challenge to jump start these advances in driving technology.  Its goals are to change the view of what is possible, to build new relationships, and to create original and innovative robotic applications. Carnegie Mellon and General Motors were joined by Caterpillar, Continental, and Google in this race to the future.
