NREC is developing an automated, machine vision-based strawberry plant sorter.

Sorting harvested strawberry plants is the most time-consuming and expensive part of the harvesting process. NREC is drawing upon its expertise in vision and innovative mechanisms to build an automated strawberry plant sorter to streamline the harvesting process, reduce costs, and ensure consistent plant quality. Lassen Canyon Nursery, Driscoll’s Berries, and other growers representing 80% of California’s strawberry plant producers are supporting this project and plan to use this technology in their nursery operations.
