Comparing live and recorded video will help convoy drivers spot potentially dangerous changes along a vehicle’s route. The black object in the live image on the left could be an explosive device.
Operational Safety

As more and more unmanned systems are deployed, their safe operation becomes critically important.  NREC is dedicated to making our systems safer to use.  Our operational safety technologies include:

Assisted Mining allows miners to remain at a safe distance while controlling mining equipment.
Vehicle Stability predicts unsafe conditions, such as rollover or tipping.
Vehicle Classifier identifies cars and trucks in video of a roadway and is used in commercial automotive safety products.
Vehicle Safeguarding detects obstacles in a mobile robot’s environment, such as boulders, other vehicles, fences, trees, and people.  The robot can stop or swerve to avoid them.
Enhanced Teleoperation (SACR) provides remote operators a real-time, three-dimensional view of the robot’s environment.  This makes teleoperation safer and easier.
Driver Awareness and Change Detection (DACD) systems help drivers spot potentially hazardous changes in a vehicle’s surroundings and generally assist with driving.  This is particularly important in defense applications.

We work closely with our customers to test and verify the operational safety of our systems.
