Anthony Stentz , Ph.D.
Associate Director
Dr. Anthony (Tony) Stentz is a Research
Professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics
Institute and Associate Director of the National Robotics
Engineering Center. Dr. Stentz has 25 years in the robotics
industry and is a recognized expert in robot path planning,
autonomous cross country navigation, and the automation
of heavy mobile equipment used in industry.
Key accomplishments include the invention of the D* algorithm
for route re-planning, invention of market-based algorithms
for multi-robot planning and coordination, the development
of ladar-based cross country navigation systems for unmanned
vehicles, and the automation of excavators, windrowers, tractors,
and mining machines used in industry.
Dr. Stentz has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon.
